"ReWo"(full project name: "From research to working life: students as knowledge brokers for enterpernurial development") is an Erasmus+ project and is part of Key Action 2 - Partnerships for Cooperation. The implementation started on December 1st 2022 and will last 24 months.

The ReWo project is aimed at studying the practices of transferring the findings, which students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels come to through writing their final theses, into the real sector. The basic goal is to connect students with representatives of the tourism industry, to motivate them to give real challenges from practice to the students to solve in the context of writing final papers, and to later transfer them into practice. We will also create the position of "Idea Manager" as a position in companies whose role will be to promote the acquisition of new business ideas and take care of their evaluation and meaningful promotion in the direction of implementation.

The project besides Faculty of Tourism as lead partner, involves the cooperation of partners from Norway, Finland, and Portugal, each of whom brought their own knowledge and experience through a series of online project meetings and two intensive weeks, which will also include students (representatives of generation Z), to whom the final results of the project will also be intended.

On the last day of November, the streets of Brežice were taken by the students of the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Maribor. They occupied the Faculty lecture halls in unprecedented numbers. It was the Faculty’s second traditional Mix & Mingle Day, when full-time Brežice students came together with part-time English-programme students from the Faculty’s dislocated unit in Ljubljana, both being additionally joined by Erasmus exchange students currently in Brežice. It was a cheerful day despite the rain, brimming with collaborative spirit and youthful excitement of students from all over the world.

Classes were held according to the normal schedule, with two differences: they were all conducted in English that day, and they all held double the number of students (full-time and part-time + Erasmus). Students held lively discussions of tourism-related issues and exchanged opinions, raising each other’s awareness of the differences in customs, approaches and way of thinking. What developed spontaneously was a truly fruitful learning dynamics, confirming the new informal slogan of the Faculty of Tourism: "The more variety, the better society."

Back at the Faculty premises the high-spirited students were greeted by the dean and then learned about exchange opportunities under the Erasmus+ programme. After a snack of traditional Slovenian apple študelj and walnut potica, the large and vivacious group continued this special day on a guided tour of the town’s cultural hub, the Brežice Castle, and the freshly renovated Water Tower. The Knight's Hall with the most beautiful baroque paintings in Slovenia and the exceptional views from the viewing platform of the Water Tower impressed the students.

The Brežice MC Club bursted at the seams when accommodating the lively crowd for lunch and having them prepare for the highlight of the day, the long-awaited 'Treasure Hunt.' When the start signal sounded in the late afternoon, mixed groups scattered around town in their rain-proof ponchos to discover together – locals and visitors hand in hand – the sights of Brežice. A tailor-made online application helped guide them. Among other things, they learned where Jackie Chan shot the movie Armour of God way back in 1986, and how Stojan Batič depicted the symbolism of peasant revolts in the Monument to Peasant Uprisings and the Revolution... The fastest and best three teams won practical prizes, while the absolute winners – who incidentally called themselves the 'Genious' – also received the Mix & Mingle Trophy. This rolling trophy will change hands with each new traditional Faculty of Tourism Mix & Mingle event. And so the current winning team gets to keep it until May 2023, when the next such competition is being organised in Ljubljana...

The day ended in a convivial atmosphere with dancing and joy at the Brežice MC Club, until a bus full of international Faculty of Tourism students headed back to Ljubljana.

Let us conclude with the slogan from the MM Trophy: Tourism students from around the world: The more variety, the better society. We are proud to say that the mixed and mingling students at the spectacular November Mix & Mingle Day undoubtedly proved this to be true.
