RESEARCH FIELD

I graduated and received my doctorate degree in media and communication science, in the field of digital media. As Vice-Dean for Research and Chair of the Diploma Commission, I focus on building a stimulating research environment and ensuring the highest possible quality of research.

My research interests cover three areas.
My primary research focus includes the processes of digitalization in tourism: political economy of new media, platform work and algorithmic management, algorithmisation, big data, and implementation of metrics in sustainable tourism monitoring.
My second research focus covers psychology of communication in tourism: emotional work, communication techniques, psychology of persuasion, storytelling, humour and with the COVID-19 crisis also so called fear appeals.
Finally, my third research focus covers my interests in finding innovative answers to the global problem of climate change: climate change adaptation and mitigation, aquaponics, geothermal energy.

COST Action Manaement Committee member »Platform Work Inclusion Living Lab” (P-WILL) CA21118;

and COST Action member »Social Sciences and Humanities for Transformation and Climate Resilience” (SHiFT) CA21166.

TEACHING APPROACH

As an educator, I believe strongly in the power of mentoring: we learn the most when we are lucky enough to be given a demanding but encouraging mentor. At the Faculty of Tourism University of Maribor, I am thus grateful that the student groups are small enough to enable seminars and individual mentoring.

In a world that will require from our students to show an extremely high degree of flexibility and passion, we as mentors must also step up to the challenge. Here I come to follow Robinson (2003), that helped me to understand that we are true mentors only when we aid students in identifying their passions, encourage their interests, smooth their paths and push them to make the most of their capabilities.
