TEACHING APPROACH
In teaching, I place emphasis on both theoretical side and, above all, try to convey my practical experience of operational and project work in the field of sustainable and responsible tourism over the last 35 years. For me, the best classroom for acquiring the knowledge of students of the Faculty of Tourism is field work, i.e. concrete examples on which they can learn the most and test the acquired theoretical knowledge and thus gain the necessary experience. Of course, I practice all forms of interactive work in the classroom and prefer the active participation of students in my lectures. I want to encourage them to think critically and develop their strategic planning skills in the area of sustainable and responsible tourism.
PERSONAL DESCRIPTION
I studied in Ljubljana, Birmingham (United Kingdom), Vienna (Austria) and in 1999 received my PhD in a thesis entitled "Transforming rural areas along the Slovenian-Croatian border" at the Faculty of Arts in the Department of Geography of the University of Ljubljana. My professional career began in 1986 with various activities in the field of integrated rural development in Slovenia and abroad. Between 1996 and 2009, I was the project manager along the Heritage Trails project of Dolenjska and Bela krajina under the umbrella of the Novo mesto Chamber of Commerce. From 1986 I was also an adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture for Rural Development, where I also worked as a Senior adviser to the Slovenian government in the Structural Policy and Rural Development Sector from 1999 to 2001. Over the past 30 years, I have worked as a consultant at UNDP and other public and private institutions, in the field of sustainable development of local communities in the countries of the South-East Balkans, i.e. Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia. I have also participated in a number of projects and development initiatives to develop sustainable tourism in many countries of Europe and Asia. I am a founding member of the Slovenian Network for Rural Development, which is part of the European Network "PREPARE".
