Last Friday, the staff of the Faculty of Tourism UM gathered for our Quality Day, an event focused on enhancing the quality of the faculty's processes and operations. This autumn edition covered various topics, with a special focus on reviewing the action plan from the previous academic year, addressing current challenges faced by staff, and looking ahead by working on the new strategy for FT UM.
Quality Days, organized twice a year by the FT UM Quality Committee, are essential events dedicated to in-depth discussions on the faculty's performance and quality. They also contribute to greater awareness and emphasize the importance of quality in our daily work.

In October, not only did the new academic year begin, but also the Erasmus+ project Reimagining the Erasmus Experience, or REX for short (project no. 2024-1-SI01-KA220-HED-000251676), which we are leading and coordinating at the Faculty of Tourism. The project involves the project leader, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vita Petek, and researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jasna Potočnik Topler. Besides the coordinator, the University of Maribor, the project includes partners from France (University of Versailles SAINT-QUENTIN-EN-YVELINES), Norway (HOGSKULEN PA VESTLANDET), Turkey (IZMIR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY), and Luxembourg (EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION-CAMPUS EUROPAE). The REX project aims to reshape the Erasmus students' experience, with the goal of improving the quality of their stay, learning, and personal development during the exchange. The Erasmus exchange has been a vital pillar of international student collaboration and networking for over three decades, and this project addresses key challenges in modern higher education, such as increasing inclusivity, digitalization, and adapting the student experience to the needs of the 21st century.

On Thursday, October 3, 2024, the Strategic Council of the Faculty of Tourism at the University of Maribor held a meeting at Mokrice Castle. The event, which annually brings together key stakeholders from the Slovenian tourism industry and the public sector, was this year dedicated to the importance of data management, digitalization in tourism, and trends and competencies for the future.
This year's participants included Matej Knaus, Chairman of the Strategic Council of FT UM from the Palma Travel Agency, Alenka Mokrovič Pogačar from Terme Čatež, Marko Slapnik from Solčavsko, and Urška Topolšek Planinšek from the Urška Tourist Farm, alongside the faculty's representatives, Dean Dr. Marjetka Rangus, Dr. Maja Turnšek, and Dr. Tomi Špindler.
Collaboration with the industry and other stakeholders is crucial for the transfer of knowledge and identifying the needs of the tourism sector. These partnerships provide the Faculty with valuable insights, helping to shape and adapt study programs and shorter training courses to offer relevant and useful knowledge to the industry.

On Friday, September 27th, we celebrate World Tourism Day, this year under the theme "Tourism and Peace." The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) aims to emphasize the role of tourism in bridging divides and strengthening international understanding. Intercultural comprehension, connections, foreign language skills, and awareness of both the local environment and personal identity – values that we at the Faculty of Tourism continuously nurture and promote, also among our students – contribute to this mission.

At the Faculty of Tourism, University of Maribor, we will mark this day with a workshop titled "Digital Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and Tourism" which will take place today, September 27, 2024, at 12:00 PM in the lobby of the Faculty of Tourism, University of Maribor (Cesta prvih borcev 36, Brežice). The workshop will provide insights into innovative approaches to the use of technology in the tourism industry. Participants will learn about the application of artificial intelligence in travel planning, the possibilities of using VR glasses for interactive presentations of tourist destinations, and the impact of technological changes on trends and the shaping of the future of tourism.
We also invite you to attend other events we are organizing in the Brežice destination.

The celebration of World Tourism Day will be extended at the Faculty. On Thursday, October 3, 2024, we will once again meet with our partners at the Strategic Council of the Faculty of Tourism, which will take place at Mokrice Castle. The key topics will include the significance of data in tourism, digital transformation, and technological advancements. The latter shows great potential for enhancing guest experiences, more efficient destination management, and contributing significantly to the digital development and progress of the tourism sector.
